Mission and Values
Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law | Centro de Estudos e Investigação em Direito is a research unit of generalist scope at Católica Law School whose mission is to promote key changes to the traditional paradigm of legal research in Portugal. The Centre aims to set Católica apart from other Portuguese law schools in its way of thinking about and carrying out legal research. We are committed to a paradigm that stresses a transnational focus teamwork and interdisciplinary research.
The innovative and transnational nature of the Centre is evident in (i) the international publications of its members (several having obtained national and international awards) (ii) the launching of the first bilingual and peer reviewed Portuguese legal journals (Católica Law Review and Market and Competition Law Review) (iii) the multiple national and international projects selected and funded by national and European institutions and (iv) the partnerships established with prestigious supranational institutions.
Católica's research projects are focused on issues with a relevant societal impact and that are key in the making of the future of law such as intergenerational justice maritime affairs the future of European integration and artificial intelligence. The Centre is also conscious of the fundamentally practical dimension of law having launched an EU Law Observatory and a Centre for Legal Opinions.
